Beatles hype notwithstanding, perhaps the re-union that should have happened, but tragically never will, is that of the original Wailers, of which only Bunny Wailer survives. With the release of their follow-up Burnin’, which included soon to be reggae standards like “I Shot the Sheriff” and the fiery “Get Up, Stand Up”, the moment was already over as Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh moved on to solo careers of some distinction. The grating, lilting harmonies, Bunny Wailer’s harmonies literally wailing in the background would have a dramatic impact on global pop music for some time to come, even if the original album cover art which featured a giant “spliff” had to be replaced by a photo of the trio. Despite being together close to a decade, the release of Catch a Fire in 1973, marked the first the music of The Wailers - Peter, Bunny, and Robert Nesta - would be released beyond the parameters of their native island nation of Jamaica. The simple appeal of words like these from 'Redemption Song' – 'Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery/None but ourselves can free our minds' – reached out to all, required no religious obeisance and confirmed his position as a transcendent global statesman.Their sound was already classic. He had switched from the hard line Nyabinghi Rastafari to the far more all-embracing Twelve Tribes – the former was strictly black, the latter offered a proto-hippie rainbow culture approach – which suggests that no matter its visibility and the attraction of Rasta's counter-cultural symbols – the locks, the spliffs – the core message was universal, about human rights, fairness, dignity, rather than doctrinal or dogmatic. He also, of course, was the global symbol for his religion, Rastafarianism. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He was driven to take his message – of the need to struggle against hypocrisy and corruption, to stand up for yourself and combat oppression – to a global audience. What was he trying to tell the world? Most importantly, his views on injustice had evolved beyond exclusively Jamaica and his own black people to include the oppressed of all races all over the world. ![]()

That means everything you say and do must be done without any ulterior motive. Vulnerability requires honesty, and honesty only works if it’s given unconditionally, with no strings attached. The more nervous it makes you, the better, because it means you’re being authentic and making yourself vulnerable. You say it because you mean it and mean it because you say it. So the catch is that everything you say must be as authentic as possible.A non-needy man is comfortable showing his flaws because he’s more comfortable with how he feels about himself than how others feel about him.A man who’s able to make himself vulnerable is saying to the world, "Screw the repercussions this is who I am, and I refuse to be anyone else." He’s saying he is non-needy and high status. Vulnerability represents a form of power, a deep and subtle form of power. Not just emotional vulnerability (although we’ll get to that), but physical vulnerability, social vulnerability. I want you to think of vulnerability in a more broad way.Take care of yourself and those who are important to you. The only real dating advice is self-improvement.Seduction is the process by which a man induces a woman to become as invested in him as he is in her.A man's attractiveness is inversely proportional to how needy he is.Notes Part I: Reality Chapter 1: Non-Neediness ![]() |
